Blueprint for your Business Future
Blueprint for Your Business Future: Succession Planning Workshops for Immigrant Entrepreneurs
Immigrant-owned businesses too often lack a succession plan to continue operating when the owner retires, dies suddenly, or is forced to stop working because of personal issues. Rather than being sold for fair market value, these businesses abruptly close their doors. Neighborhoods lose out and workers lose jobs.
“Blueprint” is a set of six 3-hour workshops on Succession Planning which cover:
Transition Planning - Why Plan Now?
Anticipate unexpected circumstances • Find the best strategy for you •Avoid costly expenses and taxes
Selling your Business
How to make a smart sale • Understand the sales process •Locate trustworthy sales professionals • How to find qualified buyers
Business Valuation – How Much is Your Business Worth?
Determine the value of your business • Common valuation approaches • Steps you can take to increase the value of your business
Legal and Accounting Issues
Structure a business to minimize taxes • Deal with regulatory and legal issues • Organize legal and financial documents
Who will take over? • Select and train successors • Understand the role of the family • Manage the transition smoothly
Continue business operations after owner’s death • Minimize taxes during business transition • Optimize benefits to family members
These interactive sessions were offered at NYPL’s business library SIBL in fall 2014. In the winter and spring of 2015 the Blueprint series will be offered at the Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Library.
