BASIC FINANCING RESOURCES


The Science, Industry and Business Library [SIBL] has a variety of resources, both print and electronic, for entrepreneurs and small business owners. This guide highlights some basic financing sources available in print at SIBL. For more information, please consult a librarian at the McGraw desk located on the lower level of the library.

Directories and Handbooks are useful places to look for names and addresses of companies, line of business and for contact names of executives. The following lists directories and handbooks which may help entrepreneurs locate information about financing a business.


Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance HC110.P63 - This annual publication of the Office of Management and Budget describes and lists approximately 1000 federally administered grant programs that provide assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Encyclopedia Of Associations : Regional, State, and Local Organizations AS22.E53 - These annual multi-volume sets profile more than 23,000 nonprofit American organizations in eighteen classifications that include trade, business, and commerce.

Galante's Complete Venture Capital & Private Equity Directory - A database that may be searched using the browse option, alphabetically by venture capital firm or by investment criteria which include company location, type of firm, industry preference, etc. This database must be reserved by name using the kiosk or by speaking to a staff member at the EIC desk.

Government Assistance Almanac: The Guide To All Federal Financial and Domestic Programs HC110.P63.D85 - The almanac is an annual guide to more than 4000 headquarters and field offices administrating approximately 1300 federal financial assistance programs.

Lesko, Matthew. Government Giveaways for Entrepreneurs IV. HC110.P63.L373 - This volume contains over 9,000 sources of money, free advice and information to start and expand your business, including federal and state agencies.

Lonier, Terri. The Small Business Money Guide: How to Get It, Use It, Keep It. HG4027.7.L66 - Sources of money for startups, including grants, angels, venture capital, and writing a business plan to get a bank loan.

O'Hara, Patrick D. SBA Loans: A Step-By-Step Guide. HG4027.7.O43 - A guide to the application process, proposal writing, eligibility requirements, and grant programs.

Pratt's Guide To Private Equity Sources HG64.P73 - Pratt's describes approximately 800 venture capital firms, small business investment corporations [SBIC's], corporate venture groups, selected consultants, and professional service providers.

Small Business Sourcebook HD2346.U5S66 - This annual two volume set profiles more than 300 types of businesses and lists governmental and non-governmental sources of information and assistance for small businesses.
