The Library is here for you! Learn about all of our free services—now with no more late fines. Get a library card and join us in branches to explore a wide array of free programs and services for all ages—from storytimes and after-school programs to job and career support and language-learning classes.

  • Find Free Events and Programs Near You

  • The Library No Longer Charges Late Fines

    Everyone is getting a fresh start at the Library this fall! Late fines will no longer accrue on borrowed materials—even if they’re returned after the due date. Plus, all existing fines and replacement fees in all patron accounts have been cleared and erased.

  • NYPL Updates: All Available Locations Now Open

    The New York Public Library has reopened all available branch locations across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island (except those undergoing improvements). We are offering nearly full service, including general library use and seating, unlimited browsing, laptop and computer access, and more. In-person programs and classes have resumed at some locations and are expected to continue to expand over the coming months.

  • Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL)

    Visit the all-new Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), our largest circulating branch, which reopened in July 2021 following a full-scale renovation that transformed NYPL’s largest circulating branch into the library that New Yorkers need and deserve.

    The New York Public Library welcomes people from all backgrounds and celebrates the rich multicultural diversity that defines New York City. The Library is committed to helping recent immigrants and bilingual and multilingual communities navigate our array of free services and resources for all ages.

  • Accessibility

    People with low vision or reading disabilities can get free talking books and players, a mobile app, braille-learning materials, and technology coaching from the Andrew Heiskell Library.
