The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Author Marie Lu describes her new novel as an inspired mixture of X-Men, Game of Thrones and Assassin’s Creed 2! The novel, The Young Elites, is set during a 1300s Renaissance Italy, inspired dystopian land. The novel tells the tale of Adelina Amouteru.

When a Adelina was young girl a deadly blood fever passed through her land. Adelina, her mother and sister became very ill. Her mother like all adults with the blood fever, died and her sister emerged unscarred. Adelina lost an eye and her hair changed color from black to silver.

Adelina then becomes a malfetto. A malfetto means that she is defected. Nonetheless she a very beautiful young women. However to have a malfetto in the family is a disgrace that her father abusive does not allow her forget.

There were malfettos who emerged from the blood fever with magical powers. Also, many also developed strange markings on their skin. The malfettos are feared but the ones with magical powers are feared above all others. They are called The Young Elites.

Teren, the leader of the Inquisition Axis, peacemakers of the land, believes that The Young Elites are evil creatures that must be hunted and destroyed. But Teren has a dangerous secret....

Enzo is a member of the dagger society. The dagger society is a sect of The Young Elites that seeks out other powerful malfetto's before the peacemakers can capture and kill them. Enzo seeks out Adelina and saves her from death.

Adelina does not know if she can truly trust Enzo. She does not know if Teren is the real enemy. Their lives intertwine and they fight their personal battles. Adelina’s thirst for vengeance and desire to destroy anyone who gets in her way is a dangerous combination in The Young Elites.  

The second book in The Young Elites trilogy is entitled The Rose Society. The Rose Society will be published October 13, 2015. 

Marie Lu’s first dystopian trilogy was is entitled the Legend trilogy. The trilogy consist of  Legend, Prodigy and Champion.

Proxy by Alex London

Proxy is a dystopian novel where the rich are an assigned to a poor person to take their punishments for them.
