Summary

Artist André Penteado explores the reminiscences and visual developments of the delegation that landed in Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of the 19th century with the goal of establishing the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, the first official institution of arts education in the country. "Missão Francesa (French Mission) was developed by André Penteado over the course of six visits to the city of Rio de Janeiro, between February 2015 and January 2017, as part of his project "Rastros, Traços e Vestígios" (Traces, Traces and Vestiges), in which the artist explores - through photographs - events in Brazilian history that took place before the invention of photography. André seeks to create images that can help reflect upon the impact that these events had in forming Brazilian subjectivity. Also part of this projects are the books Cabanagem, released by Editora Madalena in 2015, and Farroupilha, with release set for the first semester of 2018"--Colophon booklet. Includes photographic portraits of students from EBA/UFRJ (Escola Nacional de Belas Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), FAU/UFRJ (Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro) and members of the Cooperativa Fudido Silk.
