Description
1 videocassette (27 min.) : sd. b&w; 1/2 in.
Summary
This program covers the roots of the Spanish Civil War: the electoral defeat of right-wing forces, the polarization of left and right, and the young officers' conspiracy that began the uprising in Morocco. Within days, the conflict had spread to Spain, and the bitter Civil War had begun. The program covers the course of the war: the battles, the human cost, the intervention of the totalitarian powers, and the nonintervention of the democracies, until, at the end, the Soviet Union withdrew its support and the International Brigades were disbanded; Nationalist forces entered Madrid; and the war was over.
