It's easy to start checking out physical materials if you live, work, attend school, or pay property taxes in New York State—just stop by one of our locations to validate your card. You can also start using your library card to check out e-books and e-audiobooks right away.
If your New York State address was not confirmed, you can still place holds on physical items with your 30-day temporary card. To extend your privileges and gain access to physical materials as well as e-books and e-audiobooks, validate your card at one of our locations, or if you're outside of New York City, validate via email. Check for an email sent within 24 hours of your application for a message from The New York Public Library with your library card number and expiration date.
