What the Teckst service is
NYPL uses Teckst (https://teckst.com), a third party provider, to facilitate text messaging conversations between Ask NYPL and its patrons. Standard text messaging rates apply. Message content is neither distributed beyond NYPL and Teckst nor sold.
How to disable or stop your text conversation with NYPL
Users of the Teckst service may disable text messaging conversations with NYPL by texting the word “STOP” (in all capital letters) to 646-859-0095.
To re-enable texts, readers may text “UNSTOP” in all caps to 646-859-0095.
You must be 18 years or older to use this service. We will further verify this by using an autoresponder to the initial text message, which will contain the disclaimer: “In using this service, you agree that you are 18 or older.” If you are 17 and under, please contact Ask NYPL by email or chat (Monday through Saturday, 9 AM through 6 PM.)
What data is being collected
By using this service, you agree to share with us the following information: a) mobile phone number, b) date and time of message, c) content of the conversation including any response(s) to you from NYPL staff.
Teckst processes transaction information, including date and time of the message, your mobile phone number, and the content of any conversations.
How your data is used by NYPL and Teckst
NYPL is using this data solely to answer your inquiries to Ask NYPL. Neither Teckst nor NYPL are sharing or transmitting this information to any other entity.
Teckst will process information including date and time of the message, your mobile phone number, and the content of any conversations solely for NYPL’s use.
Teckst may use phone numbers to diagnose technical issues.
Retention period of data
Teckst will delete this data after 15 days. NYPL will retain this data for 90 days to ensure that follow-up questions can be answered appropriately.
