The answer of Mr. Sullivan to the letter and misstatements of the Hon. Cadwallader D. Colden, as the advocate of the monopoly of steam and fire in navigating the rivers, coasts and lakes of New York : the unconstitutionalty of the monopoly demonstrated. The bad policy and injurious effects of it on the community exposed. The legality of an extension of the term of time of a patent when for the good of a state ; and the just views and claims of patentees in steam navigation fully explained. Supported by opinion of the counsel. With a summary history of the origin, progress and laws of the monopoly : the controversy and suits that have arisen ; together with some accounts of the causes, no longer existing, that have hitherto prevented patentees from the use of their rights on the waters of New York. Tonnage, profits, plans of operation, &c.
