Summary
Polish Labour Force Survey data indicate that in the second quarter 2009 the youth unemployment rate only rose to 19.5%, lower than the OECD average. However, a number of structural problems impair the youth labor market, e.g. the shrinking job supply in rural areas, slow transition from school to work, and strict employment protection for adults. This report on Poland contains a survey of the main barriers to employment for young people, an assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of existing measures to improve the transition from school-to-work, and a set of policy recommendations for further action by the public authorities and social partners.--Publisher's description
