- Summary
- On June 19, 1767, the Dolphin, commanded by the English captain Samuel Wallis arrives at Tautira, on the peninsula of Tahiti Island, but does not linger there ... it is the beginning of a new era marked by radical transformations of traditional Tahitian society, its organization, its beliefs. The English prefer the anchorage of Matavai to that of Tautira, and support the Arian Pomare of the district of Pare; the other chieftaincies, including those of the Tai'arapu Peninsula, are thus gradually erased from history.
