Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Hoschede White, and Theodore Earl Butler are among the very many artists who settled in the area of Vernon. They were attracted by the richness and beauty of the landscape along the Seine and the new way to consider landscape painting and the wider practice of painting "on the ground". Intense artistic activity prevailed at that time, marked by the emulation and the constant exchanges between artists in their narrow area of focus. This book traces the strong commitment of the artists in the region of Vernon and the Seine, how they were influenced by the principles of Impressionism and their dedicating to developing their art.
