- Summary
- Rosenberg recounts the experiences of his parents, Dawid and Hala Rozenberg (née Staw), in the Holocaust. Both were born in Łódź and interned in the ghetto. Describes life in the ghetto and the deportation of his parents, who were not yet married, to Auschwitz in August 1944. Dawid was assigned to slave labor at the Büssing factory in Braunschweig, while Hala was transferred to Stutthof. In April 1945, Dawid was evacuated to Ravensbrück and then to Wöbbelin, one of the last concentration camps to be set up by the Germans. After the liberation, he spent some time in the DP-camp in Bergen-Belsen and then emigrated to Sweden. Hala was sent on a death march from Stutthof in February-March 1945. After the war, she returned to Łódź and joined her future husband in Sweden in 1946. Pp. 71-87 deal, inter alia, with anti-Jewish prejudice in Sweden, as expressed in the local press in the 1920s-30s.
