- In 2008, the State of Zacatecas and the local Dioceses organized a national competition for the creation of a new central altarpiece and presbyteries for the Basilica Cathedral of Zacatecas that would be in harmony with its baroque façade. The outcome was the extraordinary piece of contemporary art by noted sculptor Javier Marin who started in 2010 the group of sculptures in the altarpiece dedicated to the virgin of Annunciation in collaboration with Gantous Architects who also did some intervention work on the colonial temple. The new altarpiece gold laminated structure measures 17 x 11 meters and includes 11 sculptures and the presbiterium (altar, ambon, seats and cathedra). The edition documents the different phases of the artistic process highlighting the conceptual aspects behind the sculptural complex created especially by sculptor Javier Marin for the central altarpiece.
