- Summary
- "The exhibition includes paintings and sculptures created over seventy years of work. Robert Baser was one of the founders of the New Horizons ("Ofakim Hadashim") group, and is known especially for his watercolors. Indeed, his aquarelles are noted for a rich, radiant colorfulness, and perfectly translate the uniqueness of Mediterranean light and colors. His larger, more planned works in oils and acrylics display a solid structuralism, expressing his work's typical synthesis between the Dionysian layer -- expressive and emotional, and the Apollonian -- rationalistic and reserved. Until the late 1970s, Baser was considered among Israel's best innovative sculptors. However, this facet of his work is less known, for he hardly exhibited his sculptures, although he never stopped creating them. It was actually in his sculptures that he gave his fertile imagination a free rein, in experiments and innovations and a humoristic, ironic expression of his social and political views."--Tel Aviv Museum website.
