- James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was an American novelist, essayist, and writer of historical works. This collection contains three holograph letters, dating from 1827 to 1836, that describe Cooper's life in Paris, France; views of naval affairs; and the writing and publishing of The Prairie (1827) and The Red Rover (1827).
