Summary
  1. John Houseman, who co-produced the original production of this opera with Orson Welles in 1937, and directed this revival, introduces the program with a reminiscence of how he and Welles managed to stage the premiere under the auspices of the Federal Theatre Project, despite the opposition of the U. S. government.
