Summary
A video recording of a lecture given by Martha Hill at the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance on November 19, 1986. The presentation is introduced by Diane Gray. Martha Hill speaks about her history in the arts and her time studying with Martha Graham. She discusses the transition of the company from different studios around the city, and early performances of choreographic pieces such as Primitive mysteries, Heretic, and Panorama. The main focus of the lecture is the development of the Martha Graham technique. This includes the beginning of the dance program at Bennington College. There is a presentation of the short black and white film Young America dances with Martha Hill giving additional commentary, which has to be played twice due to technical issues. There is also a question and answer session with the audience.
