- Note
- Performance consists mostly of groups of directed individual recitations. Some group singing is also included, sometimes simultaneously with recitations. Improvisation and/or less-than-perfect performance are encouraged.
- This score consists almost entirely of textual instructions; a few melodies are also included. The work investigates what the individual gains and loses by being part of a large crowd.
- All text taken from internet auto-completions of the phrase "When I am in a crowd I..."
- Performed by 1000 or more people, separated into groups of 250 or more, called strands, and groups of 25 to 50, called crowds. Musical training is not required for the participants, although each crowd should have its own leader with musical experience.
