File 1: begins mid-way through Dorothy Bird presentation and demonstration with two members of the Martha Graham dance ensemble: Naoko Katakami and Sheron Lynne Neverson. Anna Sokolow begins her presentation [camera cuts off]. Francis Mason narrates Barbara Morgan photographic slides from Bennington in 1938 [slides are viewable from this camera, however, they are difficult to see]. (15 min., 14 sec.) -- File 2: begins mid-way through Sophie Maslow presentation and demonstration with six dancers. Jean Erdman begins her presentation [large middle section is not viewable from this angle]. Marie Marchowsky begins her presentation [cuts off]. (16 min., 22 sec.) -- File 3: begins at the start of the panel with Dorothy Bird, Anna Sokolow, Ailes Gilmour, Sophie Maslow, Jean Erdman, Marie Marchowsky, Jane Dudley, and Lily Mehlman. The camera is focused on Francis Mason for most of the panel. Jane Dudley reminisces about Martha Graham and her early performances; Lily Mehlman speaks about Graham and Leonide Massine and Massine's Le sacre du printemps [The rite of spring]; Sophie Maslow speaks, briefly, about teaching Graham technique in Israel. Yuriko begins her presentation [camera cuts off]. Beginning of Helen McGehee presentation [camera cuts off]. Douglas Watson reminisces about his brief experience as a dancer in Graham's company and how Graham's technique has helped him as an actor including examples from the plays Antony and Cleopatra and Richard III. The camera moves over the other members of the panel instead of focusing on Douglas Watson [camera cuts off]. A small section of Stuart Hodes' reading. Beginning of Ted Dalbotten presentation [camera cuts off]. David Wood speaks about Graham's choreography and male dancers primarily with reference to various specific works. The camera follows the demonstration by Christopher Dolder around the stage. (19 min., 42 sec.) -- File 7: conclusion of Pearl Lang presentation with a demonstration of choreographed components as taught in a class setting and performed by the ensemble. Diane Gray leads a class of students from the school who demonstrate various aspects of Graham technique, with piano accompaniment. The camera angle is a very close focus on the dancers. (19 min., 58 sec.) -- File 8: continuation of the dance ensemble performing. (19 min., 5 sec.) -- File 9: conclusion of Diane Gray presentation. Francis Mason, as moderator, introduces the participants in the panel discussion: Thea Nerissa Barnes, Lyndon Branaugh, Christine Dakin, Peggy Lyman, Peter Sparling, Janet Eilber, Takako Asakawa, and Diane Gray. Mason states the first topic for discussion by the panel: Graham technique as a technique or system that is the equal in formality to the system of ballet technique. The second topic for discussion, which is then taken up by the panel: how roles were learned in the past and how they are learned now. The camera mainly pans over the panelists instead of focusing on the person speaking. (19 min., 47 sec.) -- File 10: continuation of panel discussion with Peggy Lyman, Janet Eilber, Peter Sparling, Christine Dakin, Takako Asakawa, Thea Nerissa Barnes, and Lyndon Branaugh. Mason states a third topic regarding the use of Graham technique in their own choreographic work. After the panel, Francis Mason speaks with a group of children at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance about their experience as students there and their response to the demonstrations at the seminar. (15 min., 53 sec.) -- File 11: conclusion of the seminar with a performance of Ritual to the sun from Acts of light by the Martha Graham ensemble. (13 min., 15 sec.).
