Summary

1. Panel discussion on the work of the playwright, touching on such topics as getting a play produced, working with directors, and related matters. Fuller discusses the challenges he has encountered as an African-American playwright, and his experiences with the Negro Ensemble Company. Nanus talks about researching her play The survivor, on Holocaust survivors, and its reception on Broadway. Rimmer outlines the process of creating his play, Album. Shaffer talks about his historical drama Amadeus, and about the current state of theater in New York and London. Kroll, a theatrical agent, describes her work. The panelists also take questions from members of the audience.
2. In a surprise appearance, New York Mayor Edward I. Koch delivers a brief, impromptu speech on the importance of theater.
