- This collection consists of J. Wayne Fredericks’s personal papers (biographical information, correspondence, military materials, etc.); materials related to his careers at various institutions (mainly, the Kellogg Company, his first stint at the Ford Foundation, the State Department, his second stint at the Ford Foundation, Chase Manhattan Bank; and Ford Motor Company); materials on his post-retirement consultancies; information on the various boards for which he served; materials related to his wife, Anne (nee Curtis) Fredericks; and subject and country files (mostly printed matter).acob Wayne Fredericks, known in his early life as Jake and professionally as Wayne, was a diplomat, business executive, and foundation official. He served in the administrations of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, from 1961 to 1967, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and Acting Assistant Secretary. Prior to that, he held management positions with the Kellogg Company and Ford Foundation. Following his government service, he returned to the Ford Foundation for six years, and, after a year at Chase Manhattan Bank, became Executive Director of International Governmental Affairs for the Ford Motor Company from 1974 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of numerous boards and commissions concerned with foreign policy, African affairs, education, and health. In retirement, he was Counselor-in-Residence at the Institute for International Education and the Carnegie Corporation, and an adviser to the Ford Foundation Study Group.
