- Summary
- Collection depicts aspects of the career of actor and photographer Lorenzo Tucker from the 1920s through the 1980s, consisting of individual portraits of Tucker, mostly publicity photographs (ca. 1940 to early-1980s); group portraits showing Tucker with colleagues and friends; views of Tucker at events, award presentations, and a television production set; film stills and reproductions of lobby cards; and individual and group portraits of friends and colleagues. Tucker's personal life is not depicted.
- Depictions of some of Tucker's activities include his receiving the Audelco Recognition Award (1981); attending the second annual Oscar Micheaux Awards ceremony (1975); his participation with fellow entertainers in the organization of the March on Washington movement (1942); and a view of him working for the office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York City (ca. 1960s). Among the individuals depicted with Tucker include Anita Bush, Dick Campbell, Rex Ingram, Canada Lee and Frederick O'Neal. Also of note are studio portraits of relatives of director Oscar Micheaux, who was a long time friend of Tucker.
- Film stills and lobby cards include "A Fool's Errand" (1926), "When Men Betray" (1928); "Easy Street" (1928); "Harlem after Midnight" (1934); "Straight to Heaven" (1941); "The Betrayal" (1948); "One Round Jones" (1940) and "Reet-Petite and Gone" (1947), some of which were directed by Oscar Micheaux. Also included are photographic and photomechanical reproductions of newspaper and magazine articles about Tucker and other African-American actors; and cropped sections of a calendar/booklet about Black cinema.

- Lorenzo Tucker, 1907-1986, was an African American motion picture and stage actor. Initially a vaudeville and theatrical performer, Tucker met Black filmmaker Oscar Micheaux in 1926 and was featured in 11 of Micheaux's films over a six year period billed as "The Black Valentino." After serving in the Army as an infantryman and entertainment specialist during the Second World War, Tucker settled in New York City where he appeared in stage productions, briefly led his own troupe, the Negro Drama Players, and became a photographer. After working as an assistant to the Chief Medical Examiner of New York City during the 1960s to early 1970s, Tucker moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s where he was honored as a pioneer of Black Cinema. Tucker died in 1986 at age 79.
