- Summary
- Album depicting ocean voyages and views of foreign countries photographed and collected by merchant mariner Gabel Webb in 1920. The album consists of a candid shot of Webb with an unidentified merchant mariner; candid shots and group portraits of merchant mariners, soldiers, foreign dignitaries, and indigenous people; views of vessels in port and out at sea; and views of military and funeral processions, street scenes, individual structures, landscapes, harbors, canal locks, a sailing vessel in distress, and a military burial at sea.
- Of note are views of Black mariners, possibly including Webb, serving on board the merchant vessel, and on shore leave at various foreign ports. Among the locations depicted are the Panama Canal Zone; Manila, Philippines; Nagasaki, Japan; Vladivostok, Russia; the port cities of Hong Kong and Singapore; Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka); Port Said, Egypt; and Trieste, Italy.

- Gabel Webb was an African American mariner who served on board an unnamed merchant vessel that traveled from New York City westward, via the Panama Canal, crossed the Pacific Ocean to sea ports located in Asia, passed through the Suez Canal to ports in the Mediterranian, and crossed the Atlantic Ocean back to New York, from January to July 1920.
