- Summary
- Collection consists mainly of studio portraits of actor Ira Aldridge and photographic reproductions of artists' renderings of Aldridge's stage performances that were compiled for research and inclusion in Mildred Stock and Herbert Marshall's book "Ira Aldridge: the Negro Tragedian," published in 1958. Also depicted are some of Aldridge's children and views of places associated with Aldridge.
- Included are studio portraits of Aldridge in dress attire (1840s-1860s); a portrait of Aldridge with his eldest son Ira Daniel (ca. 1840s); photographic and illustrated portraits of Aldridge in his stage portrayals of Othello, Shylock, King Lear, Mungo from "The Padlock," and Aaron from "Titus Andronicus" (ca. 1830s-1860s); studio portraits of his daughter, opera singer Irene Luranah Aldridge (n.d.), and his son Ira Frederick Olaf Aldridge as a child (1870s); and views of Aldridge's grave in Łódź, Poland (n.d.), and his former home in Kentish Town, London, England (1956).
