- Physician and epidemiologist Charles Lovell, Jr. was born on September 17, 1946 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After ninth grade, Lovell moved to New York and graduated from Seward Park High School in 1964. In 1968, Lovell received his B.S. degree in biology from Harvard College. He then received his M.D. degree in medicine from Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1972 and served as an intern at Harlem Hospital Center. In 1975, Lovell was named Chief Resident at Harlem Hospital Center before serving a stint with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) in Atlanta. Lovell then relocated to Norfolk, Virginia and launched his private practice as an internist. That same year, Lovell was appointed assistant professor for clinical research for Eastern Virginia Medical School. In 2012, Lovell launched a medical initiative to address the epidemic chronic diseases of hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol.
