- Summary
- Civil rights lawyer Elaine R. Jones was born on March 2, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia. Jones graduated from Howard University in 1965. She joined the Peace Corps and taught English to students in Turkey, before attending the University of Virginia Law School, and graduating in 1970. Jones declined a job with a prominent Wall Street firm to join the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund (LDF). In the 1972 Furman v.
