Summary
Evangelist and minister Reverend William L. Sheals was born on January 15, 1947 in Lakeland, Florida. He received his B.S. degree in business from New York University and his theological degrees from Florida Memorial Seminary and International Bible College. Sheals, the former vice president of the Mortgage Department of Carver Federal Savings and Loan Association in Harlem, New York, was the manager of Beneficial Financial Company's Bronx branch. In Florida, he served as assistant director of the Lakeland Housing Authority. He moved to Atlanta in 1979 to work as the assistant director of the Atlanta Housing Authority. He became the senior pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Norcross, Georgia in 1980. Under Sheals' direction, Hopewell Baptist Church grew from a 200-member church, to a 17,000-member ministry and community, including a senior citizen's facility, a 500-member youth church, a child development center, a Christian Academy teaching preschool through eighth grade and a Bible college.
