Summary
Librarian Julia Agnes Washington Bond was born June 20, 1908, in Nashville, Tennessee. Bond attended Meigs School and Pearl High School, where she graduated in 1924. Bond graduated from Fisk University, where both of her parents had graduated from as well, and earned her B.A. degree in English in 1929. She met Dr. Horace Mann Bond in her senior year and married him while they both attended graduate school at the University of Chicago. By 1956, Dr. Bond was named president of Lincoln University. Julia Bond acted as a first lady, providing hospitality for distinguished guests. Bond then earned her degree in library science, and was a beloved worker at the Atlanta University Library for decades. Bond and her husband supported their children in their civil rights engagement and son Julian in his public service career. Julia Agnes Washington Bond passed away on November 2, 2007.
