Summary
Neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black was born on September 13, 1957 in Tuskegee, Alabama. By the time he was in the tenth grade, he had performed his first organ transplant on a dog. After enrolling in the University of Michigan, Black was accepted to medical school after two years of undergraduate work. By 1987, he was the head of the Comprehensive Brain Tumor Program at the UCLA Medical Center, where he remained for the next ten years. In 1997, he became director of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's neurosurgery division; and, in 1998, he became the chairman of the department of neurological surgery as well as a professor at the University of California-Irvine. Black was instrumental in helping to raise money to fight cancer, and his efforts have been aided by many notable celebrities in Hollywood. Black's crusade against cancer, and his exceptional surgical skill, has led him to receive numerous honors and awards.
