- Lieutenant governor and state representative Hon. George Leslie Brown was born in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1926. He served as a Tuskegee Airman during World War II; and, in 1950, graduated from the University of Kansas with his B.S. degree in journalism. For fourteen years, he worked as a writer and editor for The Denver Post. In 1955, he won an historic election to the Colorado House of Representatives and became a state senator in 1956. Brown served as a senator for eighteen years before he was elected and served four years as lieutenant governor in 1974. Brown completed the Harvard University Business School Advanced Management Program in 1980, and worked as Grumman Corporation's chief lobbyist in Washington, D.C., until 1990. Brown was active on numerous boards and received numerous awards and honors. Brown passed away in March, 2006, at the age of seventy-nine.
