Summary
  1. The Powerbroker tells the story of Whitney Young, who biographer Nancy Weiss Malkiel called 'the inside man of the black revolution.' A social worker who became the executive director of the National Urban League from 1961 to his death in 1971, he was denigrated by black power advocates, but by challenging America's business and political communities directly, Young was able to make in-roads where other civil rights leader could not.
  2. The Powerbroker, directed by Christine Khalafian and Taylor Hamilton, chronicles Whitney Young's rise from segregated Kentucky to the national movement for civil rights as head of the National Urban League. The film includes archival footage, photos, and interviews compiled by Young's niece, award-winning journalist Bonnie Boswell Hamilton. Interviews include Henry Louis Gates Jr., Vernon Jordan, Dorothy Height, Ossie Davis, Howard Znn, and John Hope Franklin.
