- Attributed to George Bourne in the 1972 reprint edition, in Halkett & Laing, and in the Checklist American imprints. A biographical sketch of George Bourne published in the Methodist quarterly review, 1882, includes a letter, written by William Lloyd Garrison in 1858, confirming Bourne's authorship. Attributed to "Miss Grimke" in the "Catalogue of anti-slavery publications of America" included on p. [157]-173 of Proceedings of the American Anti-Slavery Society, at its third decade, 1864.
