Consists of 12 albumen photographs of a cycle of 12 paintings by Adolf Obermüllner after drawings by Julius Payer, affixed to cabinet card mounts bearing letterpress captions, and booklet of explanatory letterpress by Payer. Paintings signed: A. Obermüllner, Wien 1875. Photographs signed in letterpress on mounts: J. Payer gez., A. Obermüllner pinx.; numbered 1-12 in letterpress between signatures and the words "Deposé" and "Registered."
  2. Paintings based on a selection of the drawings by Payer that were published as illustrations in: Payer, Julius. Die österreichisch-ungarische Nordpol-Expedition in den Jahren 1872-1874 (Wien : Alfred Hölder, 1876).
  3. Obermüllner was assisted by Alexander von Bensa (figures of the expedition members) and Ludwig Gustav Voltz (animal staffage).
