Schomburg.", with newspaper clipping affixed to verso of first free endleaf, concerning Kemble's "Journal of a residence on a Georgian plantation in 1838-1839", and dated in ink by Schomburg "N.Y. Times May 18th 1907"; With the ink stamp "Schomburg Collection." This copy is part of the original collection purchased from Arthur A. Schomburg in 1926.

Local Note
Copy 1 in the Schomburg Center's Jean Blackwell Hutson Research & Reference Division Sc 975.8-K (accession # D128475) is one of the items added to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer was the Collection librarian, and Lawrence Reddick was the Curator. It includes NYPL's bookplate of "Arthur A. Schomburg Negro Collection," the NYPL perforated stamp, early processing markings of the original Schomburg Collection, but no ink stamp. Imperfect: water stained, library-bound in black cloth over boards and gilt spine title.
The Schomburg Center's Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Book Division's copy in Sc Rare 975.8-K (copy 2) (accession no. B628582) is a specially bound or rebound in full leather or rebacked spine with the original three-quarter leather affixed on the spine shewing, a gilt-decorated spine with five raised bands, crimson and black leather spine Labels, and marbled paper over boards, marbled edges, and endpapers. It includes NYPL's bookplate of "Arthur A. Schomburg Negro Collection," the NYPL perforated stamp, the Star ink stamp, and early processing markings of the original Schomburg Collection.
