- Summary
- The voluntary withdrawal of Leopold Sédar Senghor's power on the evening of December 31, 1980, linked neither to advanced age nor to a failing state of health, or to a lack of confidence of the Senegalese people, is no stranger to the writers' career. which inspired him not only in the form of the incompressible and imperishable poetic work, but also in the conduct to be held vis-à-vis the political, space-time and secular power. In some of these men of literature and culture, a perfectly acceptable and reasonable political idea and a great poetic faculty are harmoniously combined. By withdrawing from power, Senghor refused to be trapped in a world where interests in calculations are the most motivating motives, a world marked by its perils and soils ... Abu Bakr Moreau is a teacher-researcher, Lecturer in American Studies at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (Senegal). He is the author of a first book entitled Léopold Sédar Senghor and Walt Whitman: Pour l'universalisme humaniste published in 2010. Senghor and Whitman, as poets of decolonization, of classical inspiration, and animated by a universalist vision of the world.
