Summary

1. “A Great Day in Harlem” is a documentary film directed by the press agent, radio producer, jazz aficionado, and fixture of New York’s jazz scene, Jean Bach. The 1994 film recounts the story of Esquire photographer Art Kane's 1958 portrait of more than fifty notable jazz musicians in front of a Harlem brownstone taken on a morning in August. With notable interviews, Bach tells a story quintessential to jazz history.
