- Journalist Can Merey tells the story of his father Tosun, a Turkish man who went to Germany in 1958 to find a new home. After graduation, Tosun marries a German woman and founds a family in which only German is spoken. He manages a German company, becomes a German citizen, begins to dream in German, and develops a taste for roast pork and wheat beer. But sixty years later, Tosun takes a sobering look back. Although he did all he could to integrate into German society, he was always told that he was worth less than a "real" German. The situation was different with his sister, who emigrated to the United States at that time and never experienced any discrimination there. Tosun's story sheds new light on the lives of the three million German Turks, the complex relationship between Germany and Turkey, and provides answers to questions that are currently much discussed: Why is the integration of many Turks in Germany so difficult? Who is responsible for the problems of social intergration and relations with Turkey--only the Turks or also the Germans?
