- Sexuality and erotism are central themes in the work of Tunga (b. Palmares, Pernambuco 1952 - d. Rio de Janeiro, 2016) since his first solo exhibition, titled Museum of Infantile Masturbation, carried out in1974 at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition comprises about one hundred works by the artist, including installations, objects and drawings. The focus of the exhibition is on the manner in which Tunga explored topics such as sexuality and eroticism as central themes throughout his artistic production. Spanning the entirety of his career, from the 1970's to his death in June 2016, the works in the exhibition present a range of materials used by Tunga, such as bronze, copper, brass, wood, paper, rubber, and makeup; as well as refer to several areas of knowledge, such as literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis, chemistry, biology, and alchemy. The exhibition closes MASP's 2017 annual program themed around sexuality, which included solo exhibitions of artists Teresinha Soares, Wanda Pimentel, Miguel Rio Branco, Toulouse-Lautrec, Tracey Moffatt, Guerrilla Girls, Pedro Correia de Araújo and the collective exhibition "Histórias da sexualidade (Histories of sexuality).
