Summary
Three late 19th century portfolios of art prints reproduced from signed original sketches by Phil May, with reproduction photographs of performers and the performance venue, created in 1898 for the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, as souvenirs of the original London production of The Little minister by J. M. Barrie.

  • Volume 1 is a medium-sized red hard-backed portfolio with embossed pebbling; title and other lettering in white, including a reproduction of Phil May's customary autograph, produced by the Nassau Press, St. Martin's Lane, London; verso of the cover is a program of the opening night cast. Of seventeen total leaves of plates, fifteen depict sketches of actors in costume; one is a photograph of the exterior of the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, with a crowd of theatre-goers waiting to enter; and one is a composite photograph of J. M. Barrie, Cyril Maude, Winifred Emery, and Frederick Harrison. [Copy 1, Stead Collection.]
  • Volume 2 is the same as described above but with sixteen leaves of plates; lacks composite photograph. [Copy 2, donor unknown.]
  • Volume 3 is a large green hard-backed portfolio of textured fabric with a fabric tie; title and other lettering embossed in gold, including "Souvenir of the 200th Performance May 7, 1898," produced by the Nassau Press, St. Martin's Lane, London; verso of the cover is a program of the opening night cast. Of seventeen total leaves of plates, fourteen depict sketches of actors in costume; one is a photograph of the exterior of the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, with a crowd of theatre-goers waiting to enter; one is a composite photograph of J.M.
