  • Programs (1935 - 1940) for Hamlet by William Shakespeare primarily in the United States and England. The bulk of programs here document Guthrie McClintic's production on Broadway starring John Gielgud and Leslie Howard's production in collaboration with John Houseman in which he starred. Also of note are performances by Laurence Olivier, Maurice Evans, Alec Guinness in a modern dress version, and, lastly, Burgess Meredith in a live broadcast for the Columbia Shakespearean Cycle radio program, later released as a sound recording called Shakespeare in Hollywood.
