- Summary
- Gilbert H. Montague (1880-1961) was an American lawyer and collector of rare books, manuscripts and autographs. The Gilbert H. Montague Collection of Robert Fulton Manuscripts contains correspondence, writings and drawings by the famed American civil engineer and inventor, 1796-1815. The majority of the correspondence and writings concern Fulton's operation of his steamship company with Robert R. Livingston. The collection includes Fulton's 1812 travel diary of a trip to Washington D.C., and sketches he made, including those illustrating his treatise, "On the Mode of Using Sleeping Torpedoes."
