- Summary
- Leida Snow interviews on phone Don [Donald] Pippin, musical director and vocal arranger of the upcoming 1993 Broadway production of the musical "The red shoes" with a book by Marsha Norman, lyrics by Norman and Bob Merrill (credited as Paul Stryker) and music by Jule Styne. Based on Powell and Pressburger's film, it tells the tale of a young ballerina who performs in an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story. Pippin talks about the show, and criticizes the choice of the casting director for hiring the wrong actress for the main female character of the musical. (The production was a failure, losing nearly $8 million). He also speaks about his friend and colleague Jerry Herman, American composer and lyricist.
