Summary
  1. Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn (1783-1851) of Roxbury, Massachusetts was a politician, militia officer, author and horticulturist. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, he was the son of Henry Dearborn (1751-1829), an American army officer and statesman, and Dorcas Osgood Marble. The collection contains a letter to his friend Joseph Gales, editor of the National Intelligencer at Washington, D.C., dated 1848 April 26; a short letter to Benjamin Mudge at Lynn, Massachusetts confirming a lecture, dated 1843 November 10; and four importation certificates for wine arriving in Boston and its vicinity, dated 1816 and 1823, signed by Dearborn during his tenure as Collector of Customs at Boston.
