- Streaming file 1 (approximately one hour and 40 minutes). Jeff Duncan introduces himself and the program to be presented as well as the panelists: Anna Sokolow, Danny [Daniel] Nagrin, Valerie Bettis, Stuart Hodes, and Charles Weidman (who arrives late); topics discussed, at times in response to questions and comments from the audience, include: how they each first became involved in dance, including anecdotes and reminiscences of Martha Graham, Louis Horst, and Hanya Holm among others; the strong social component of early modern dance as compared with today; the development of their own, independent careers as choreographers including the influence of Louis Horst; the proliferation of modern dance techniques and overall expansion of the modern dance world; casting dance roles; dance training in academic institutions as compared to dance training outside of academia; proliferation of dance students and classes today [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
