The musical works from his recorded performances that are scheduled to be broadcast on the radio are announced and analyzed but not included in this recording. In response to Shear's questions Watts speaks about his touring (almost 100 concerts a year) and the challenge of playing unfamiliar pianos; piano tuning and piano tuners; his preference of the sound; his reaction to and opinion of the music critics (recounts his and Leonard Bernstein's reaction to bad criticism after their joint concert); the difference between performing for a live audience and a recording; his choice of composers among whom he singles out Schubert; his concert etiquette and behavior of the public; and comments on some of his performances and conductors with whom he played.
