  • The play opened at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club in New York City on May 5, 1971, and ran for two weeks before moving to the Roundhouse Theatre in London, where it ran from August 2 to August 28, 1971.
  • Produced by Ira Gale; directed by Anthony Ingrassia; cast included Wayne County (who in 1980 changed her name to Jayne County) as Vulva, Tony Zanetta as B. Marlowe, and Cherry Vanilla as Amanda Pork.
  • Pork was based on tape-recorded telephone conversations between Andy Warhol and Brigid Berlin about her family's private life. According to Gary Comenas’s Andy Warhol Chronology website, Brigid’s mother, “Honey Berlin, a Fifth Avenue socialite who included the Duke of Windsor amongst her close friends, was livid when she found out about the play by reading a review of it in the New York Times. Brigid angrily called Andy and told him, ‘You’re nothing but a fucking faggot! You don't care about anyone but yourself! And your goddamn fucking fame! And your fucking Factory! And your fucking money!’”
  • The play was an important counter-cultural event, and would help shape the evolution of the glam, glitter, and punk rock movements. The London production had a transforming influence on David Bowie’s visual style and stage presentation.
  • Jayne County (b. 1947), born as Wayne Rogers, was rock music’s first transsexual singer. She influenced many counterculture, punk, and glam musicians, including David Bowie, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Pete Burns, and Lou Reed.
