Mary Jane Phillips-Matz (1926-2013) was an American scholar and writer, noted for her many articles on opera and her biographies of composers Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, as well as her translations of opera libretti for the Metropolitan Opera. The Mary Jane Phillips-Matz collection consists mainly of research files and drafts of Phillips-Matz's biography of Verdi. Research files on Adelina Patti, Gian Carlo Menotti, Samuel Barber, and other topics and are also included.
