Summary
Jillana discusses George Balanchine's Liebeslieder Walzer; how she learned she was in this ballet; Balanchine started rehearsals with Part I (heeled shoes); Jillana being the youngest dancer to join New York City Ballet at the age of 12 with her first performance on her 13th birthday; motives and themes that run throughout this piece; her costume having lavender elements; how she always held the skirt with her hand while no one else did; how quickly Balanchine choreographed; Balanchine choreographing the arm movements; Jillana taking company class and participating in the teacher classes; how she never used counts, but always felt the music; having a fast costume change and always being the first changed; remembering Balanching and Stravinsky arguing about the tempo for the music, and Balanchine wanting it faster; how Jillana has never seen this work but would like to now; how dancers have more similar looks now opposed to all the shapes and sizes when she was a member of the company; and Liebeslieder Waltzer being her second favorite dance to perform after Serenade.
