- Summary
- Harry Ruby, a composer and screenwriter, speaks about his childhood, his background, the beginning of his songwriting, the circumstances that led to his partnership with Bert Kalmar( a lyricist who started as a successful vaudevillian); the movie "Check and double check" for which Kalmar and Ruby wrote the story; the "Book my mother never sang" (a book of 12 humorous songs); and many famous songwriters of his generation such as the Gershwin brothers and others. The interview is sprinkled with a few anecdotes from his life experiences including a story about a pet duck who drank martini, and a monkey named Brutus (both belonged to Kalmar who loved animals and had all sorts of them on his ranch) who acted in a movie.
